Korean Air Introduces Tasty and Healthy Organic Menus

Seoul -- Korean Air said it will offer passengers a taste of truly healthy in-flight meals prepared with top quality ingredients such as organic vegetables and grains. The introduction of the new organic dishes reflects Korean Air’s great care for its passengers’ health and wellbeing. The new organic menus contain fresh organic vegetables such as lettuce, red chicory and romaine, bread made from organic flour and organic morning cereal.

Jetstart Airways Recruits Thai On-board Hospitality Crew

Jetstar Airways, Qantas' budget airline, is setting up a cabin crew base in Bangkok to support the planned startup of its Asia Pacific network at the end of this year.

110 Thais will work as on-board hospitality crew starting in November. The plan is to raise that number to 200 next year as its operation grows.

Open Skies Between Kuwait and US

Kuwait and the US have signed an open skies deal. It will officially begin in October when US carrier United Airlines flies to Kuwait. The agreement eliminates most government restrictions on air travel between the two countries. Kuwait also plans to develop its airport to increase capacity. AME INFO.

Jo'burg International Airport Will Change Name to OR Tambo Airport

Johannesburg International airport's name will change to OR Tambo airport, probably in October, Minister of Arts and Culture Pallo Jordan announced in Parliament on Thursday.

"I am formally announcing that I am approving the name change," he told the National Assembly. The name change was initially proposed by the local municipality.

Lufthansa Still Far Away from A Deal to Sell Stake in Thomas Cook

Germany's Deutsche Lufthansa is still far from reaching a deal to sell its 50-percent stake in tourism firm Thomas Cook to co-owner KarstadtQuelle, the airline said.

"Yes, there are discussions but they are a long way from being finished," Lufthansa board member Stefan Lauer told journalists at an event in Frankfurt late on Wednesday.

Southwest Airlines appoints SVP Operations and VPs Ground Operations

Southwest Airlines said Greg Wells will become the Senior Vice President of Operations, effective September 1, 2006. Wells will also become a member of Southwest Airlines' Executive Planning Committee, and will continue as the company's Emergency Director. Wells began his career with Southwest Airlines in 1981 as a Ramp Agent and has held various positions in the Ground Operations Department and Flight Dispatch Department.

Effective September 1, the company appointed Vice President of Station Operations, Chris Wahlenmaier, as Vice President of Ground Operations. Teresa Laraba, currently Senior Director of Ground Operations Stations, also will become Vice President of Ground Operations. PM

Coca Cola North America President Resigned

Donald_r_knaussNEW YORK -- Coca-Cola on Wednesday said Donald Knauss, president of Coca-Cola North America (photo), was resigning to accept a job as chairman and chief executive of another company.

The world's largest beverage company did not say where Knauss was going, but called it "a major company." In a statement, Knauss called it "the opportunity of a lifetime."

A Coca-Cola spokesman could not elaborate, leaving the other company to make its own announcement.

Knauss will be replaced by J. Alexander Douglas, Jr., Coca-Cola's Chief Customer Officer.

Airline Passengers 'Confused' by New Baggage Restrictions

More than half of airline passengers are confused by the new baggage restrictions, a poll out today shows.

As many as 52% are unsure about what they can now take with them, the survey from the International Air Passengers Association (IAPA) found. [More -- August 30, '06]

Ryanair Ready for On-board Mobile Phone Use

Passengers travelling with low-fare airline Ryanair will be able to use mobile phones on board from next year, it was announced today.

The Irish no-frills carrier has completed a deal with communications company OnAir to enable mobile communications on all Ryanair's Boeing 737 jets.
